As an executive member of the Be The Change founding group, I co-developed the vision and programme of this NGO which brought together leading edge thinkers, activists, social entrepreneurs, campaigners, artists and policy makers at a large annual 3-day international conference in London around the interconnected themes of ecological sustainability, social justice and spiritual/personal fulfilment. BTC inspired similar organisations in Australia and Belgium.
In 2006, we became the European vehicle for The Symposium, a multi-media interactive workshop designed in the USA on the same themes, and I travelled to the U.S. over 3 summers to become a Trainer. Our UK team trained facilitators in a number of other countries, in Europe and beyond, to deliver the Symposium, embody its principles, and catalyse and support national community networks for individual and collective action in these areas.
Be The Change Initiative
Be The Change Initiative (BTCI) seeks to inspire, catalyse and support committed action in the areas of environmental sustainability, social justice and spiritual fulfilment. We see these issues as one not three and frame the crises facing humanity as our greatest opportunity for change.
We believe that humanity faces the greatest ecological, social and economical crises in history. Our modern culture, with its over-consumption and over-exploitation of humans and nature, has led us into an impasse.
We address these crises through offering educational and transformative workshops and by building a connected passionate community of people who stand for this vision of a sustainable, just and fulfilling human presence on Earth. At the heart of this work is the Be The Change Symposium.
We believe that in order to create long term systemic change we need to change our collective story from that of an Industrial Growth Society to that of a life-sustaining civilization, this is the essential adventure of our time.
The Pachamama Alliance / Awakening The Dreamer
The Pachamama Alliance empowers indigenous people of the Amazon rainforest to preserve their lands and culture and, using insights gained from that work, educate and inspire individuals everywhere to bring forth a thriving, just and sustainable world.
Pachamama is a Quechua word referring to the sacred presence of Earth, the sky, the universe and all time.
The Pachamama Alliance was created at the invitation of the Achuar, an indigenous people of the Amazon rainforest and the transformative flagship workshop, the Awakening the Dreamer, Changing the Dream Symposium, grew out of this invitation. The workshop is called the Be the Change Symposium in the UK.
